When it comes to making money online there are a lot of different opportunities and approaches that you can take. Some of the most popular options like AdSense, affiliate programs, and direct ad sales are popular in part because they are not that difficult to set up. Of course, you need a website with some traffic or a mailing list, but setting up these monetization methods is relatively quick and easy.
While there is plenty of opportunity to earn money with these methods, and they are all methods that I use in my own business, selling your own products brings some benefits that you simply cannot get from these other methods.
Wow, it’s been a really long time since I published a new post here at ProfitBlitz! I didn’t intend for that long of a delay, but a few months ago I went through the process of selling some of my sites and recently all of my time has been tied up in the process of transitioning my time and focus from those sites to new projects.
Over the past 5 or 6 years I’ve sold several websites/blogs and I get questions pretty often from friends who are looking to sell a site of their own, so I wanted to share some of the things I’ve learned from my own experiences. This article covers 10 things that I have found to be key to selling a website for six figures. Of course, this doesn’t mean that all of these items will apply to all situations, but in general they are good things to know if you are interested in selling your own site at some point in the future.
Here are 10 keys to selling a website for six figures.
One of the most important aspects of monetizing a blog is getting the right offers in front of the right people. If you want to promote products as an affiliate or sell your own products promoting them in the main body of your content is far more effective than simply throwing some banners in your sidebar. Promotions within the post content, or directly above or below the content will generally be the most visible, attract the most clicks, and ultimately make you the most money.
When I visit different blogs one of the things I like to observe is how they are making money. The typical monetization methods like AdSense, banner ad sales, and affiliate marketing are what you’ll usually find. Some blogs, of course, have their own products or services to sell.
Even blogs that use these common monetization methods can put a unique spin on it to do something that stands out. In this post I want to highlight five blogs that are doing something a little bit different than most other blogs. Of course, there are far more examples that could be featured as well, so if you know of any interesting examples please feel free to share them in the comments.
Hopefully taking a look at these five blogs will give you some ideas about how you can monetize your own blog. Looking at blogs in different industries and niches can be a great exercise because it can help to get you out of the rut of doing the same things as all the other blogs in your niche or industry.
A few weeks ago I published a group interview with 26 different bloggers talking about their favorite methods for monetizing a blog. Many of those blogging experts mentioned affiliate marketing as one of their favorite ways to make money from a blog, and so I thought it would be helpful to write a detailed article about why and how bloggers can make money through affiliate programs. If you’re looking to make more from your own blog one of the best possibilities is to increase the amount you are making as an affiliate.
There are a lot of different ways to go about making money online (which is part of the reason why it can be so overwhelming if you are just getting started), and membership websites are a favorite of many online marketers. With a membership site you’ll offer some sort of content, products, or services exclusively to people who have paid to get access to your site, and it will also involve a recurring payment in order for the membership to stay active. There are a lot of reasons to like the membership model, which we’ll get into in just a moment, but I think it’s important to take a balanced look at the subject because there are also some significant challenges to having success with a membership site.
The thought of selling your own digital products can seem a little intimidating if you have never done it before, but if you want to maximize the income from your websites and blogs it is one of your best options.
Selling digital products offers a number of advantages over other monetization methods. It can be done in any niche or industry, provides almost unlimited income potential, can help to brand yourself as an expert in your field, and it can even be done with little to no existing audience.
When it comes to digital products e-books are often the first thing that comes to mind for many people. While e-books are a great option, they are just the tip of the iceberg. Your product could be another type of info product, such as a video course. Many industries will also have other options as well, like stock photos, stock graphics and icons, website templates and WordPress themes, WordPress plugins, and music downloads.
In the world of blogging and internet marketing there are countless people who are trying to find ways to make money online. Some are looking to avoid a more traditional full-time job. Some need to replace lost income after being laid off. Some just want a flexible part-time income. Others want to be able to work from home to spend more time with their family.
Regardless of your reasons or motivations, one of the biggest challenges with making your first money online is knowing which path to choose or which strategy is best for your situation. Should you create several small niche sites and monetize with AdSense or affiliate programs? Should you build an authority blog? Should you start a membership website? Should you create and sell digital products? Should you offer some type of service?
If you’re like me you probably come across a product or service just about every day that claims to be able to make you loads of money online in just a matter of days. While there are some success stories of people who have been able to make a lot of money quickly, reality is much different for the vast majority of people who attempt to make money online.
Building an online business for the long run is typically a more realistic approach, provides a more stable foundation for a business, and in the end is likely to wind up being more lucrative than a quick burst that makes some money and then dies off just as fast.
If you’re someone who is willing to put in the work that is required to build a real online business, rather than relying on gimmicks or tricks to make some fast cash, you need to make sure that you are taking a long-term approach.
